PSG Wealth and Private Client Holdings were named the top wealth managers of 2024 at the prestigious Krutham Top Private Banks and Wealth Managers Awards. PSG won in the Large Institutions category, while Private Client Holdings was the winner in the Boutiques category.
Renee Eagar from Brenthurst Wealth Management was named the Individual Relationship Manager of the Year. The two runners-up for this award were also from Brenthurst Wealth.
The results of the Krutham (previously Intellidex) Top Private Banks and Wealth Managers survey were released on 25 June. The awards are based on a survey of 170 wealth management firms and private banks and their clients.
The annual survey is designed as a guide for potential clients to establish which institution will best serve their needs, while also generating substantial statistical analysis of the options available in the wealth management and banking space.
This year, 12 317 clients of the participating wealth managers and private banks completed the survey.
The survey’s client questionnaire, which accounts for 60% of the rating, and resulting feedback places an emphasis on client rankings of firms across an extensive list of categories and services in various investor categories.
In addition to the Top Wealth Manager and Top Private Bank awards, there are several wealth management archetype awards: Lump-sum Investor, Young Professional, Entrepreneur, Executive, Retiree, and Wealthy Family.
Sixth win in a row
PSG Wealth won the Top Wealth Manager: Large Institutions award for the sixth consecutive year. In addition, this year it was placed first in five of the six archetype awards: Young Professional, Entrepreneur, Lump-sum Investor, Executive (award shared with Gradidge Mahura), and Retiree.
Private Client Holdings ranked second in the Wealthy Family, Entrepreneur, and Retiree archetype awards.
Edward Gibbens, the chief executive of PSG Distribution, said the awards were testament to the company’s dedication and hard work in meeting clients’ needs.
“It is a team effort, with thanks to the advisers, office support staff, and support divisions who embody the PSG values daily and deliver outstanding service to clients,” he said.
Gibbens said PSG Wealth’s success is underpinned by constant innovation and quality adviser-client relationships. “We continually evolve our financial advisory process to deliver personalised yet consistent advice to every client.”
Second award for PCH
Private Client Holdings is a Cape Town-based company that offers a Family Office approach to wealth management.
Andrew Ratcliffe, director at Private Client Holdings, said: “We are humbled to have been recognised, especially by our clients, who we are committed to serving. At Private Client Holdings, we focus on nurturing the wealth of our clients and take pride in working with multiple generations of families, so this award is especially meaningful.”
Private Client Holdings won the Top Wealth Manager: Boutique award in 2021. The company did not enter the survey in 2022/23 and elected to focus on better understanding its clients’ experience across its specialist pillars to identify pain points and then challenged its teams to resolve them.
“Over the last 18 months, we have invested considerable time and effort to review both our client, and more recently, our colleague experience at PCH. Our mission statement of nurturing wealth for our private clients and their families is fundamental to our relationship with all our stakeholders, and the work that our team has done in the client experience space makes this year’s results even more rewarding,” Ratcliffe said.
The company’s six specialist pillars are wealth management, asset management, financial services, fiduciary services, cash management, and risk management. All the pillars collaborate to deliver a cohesive and in-depth Family Office approach to wealth management.
Top three individual advisers
This was the second year that Eager, who is the head of Brenthurst Claremont (Cape Town), was placed among the top three relationship managers.
Brian Butchart, Brenthurst’s managing director, was ranked second in this year’s awards, and Sonia du Plessis, the head of Brenthurst Stellenbosch, came third. This was Butchart’s fourth appearance in the top three and Du Plessis’s third.
