One of the human traits that set us apart from other animals in general, is our ability to communicate with the use of a language. Humans use various languages which are constantly changing, especially as words are added, but also as the means by which we communicate change. Earlier writing skills are primitive today. Writing letters to pen-friends are obsolete with the dawn of email and social media platforms like Facebook or WhatsApp. We have even created acceptable abbreviations and emojis to help us communicate faster, using fewer characters.
In the business environment, however, the evolution of language has not changed that quickly, as professionalism needs to be portrayed, and time and money saved by being precise, unambiguous and succinct. How you communicate with clients and business associates determine how they view you and your business. Thus, learning and reviewing your communication skills and, in particular, your business writing skills, will contribute to you being seen as a professional.
Moonstone Business School of Excellence has created a new course with financial advisors, new professionals and support staff in mind, especially those who will be required to write business letters or emails directly to clients. The course covers the basics of business writing, the advantages of effective business writing skills, and some skills to improve written communication. It also highlights common errors, and the nuances of using different social media platforms.
At the end of the course, you will be able to:
● | Understand business communication in its various forms, the types of communication and principles involved. |
● | Ability to apply the basic skills and demonstrate improved business communication skills. |
● | Understand the advantages of good business writing skills. |
● | Understand the complexities and rules of written electronic communications. |
The course is also approved by the Financial Planning Institute of South Africa (FPI) for 2 CPD hours.
