The annual local Collective Investment Schemes (CIS) industry statistics for 2016 were released in February. The statistics show that the industry enjoyed strong growth in 2016, attracting net inflows of R166 billion and pushing assets under management over the R2 trillion mark. This is significantly higher than the net inflows of R101 billion recorded in 2015 and R109 billion in 2014.
The South African hedge fund industry statistics for 2016 show that the industry grew its assets under management by R5.2 billion in 2016, ending the year with assets of R67.4 billion. Around 89% of hedge fund assets were transitioned to regulated structures in 2016.
