The Council for Medical Schemes (CMS) has published a circular providing information about which open medical scheme benefit options have been approved with effect from 1 January 2024.
Circular 47 also shows which benefit options are new and which options will be discontinued at the end of this year.
According to the circular, which was published on 8 December, approval was pending for all the benefit options of Compcare Wellness Medical Scheme and Sizwe Hosmed Medical Scheme.
The three options offered by Cape Medical Plan and Genesis Medical Scheme, respectively, will have new names from 1 January.
The circular shows that the CMS approved only one new benefit option for 2024: Bestmed’s Beat3 Plus. According to Bestmed, the option is for members who want “generous maternity benefits, extensive in-hospital cover, and cover for chronic conditions”. It has a 25% annual savings account.
The CMS did not approve Momentum Medical Scheme’s application to launch a new option called Fusion.
Three Discovery Health Medical Scheme options will be discontinued at the end of 2023: Classic Delta Comprehensive, Essential Comprehensive, and Essential Delta Comprehensive.
