Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana has appointed Advocate John Simpson as the permanent FAIS Ombud, the FSCA said yesterday.
The announcement comes six weeks after Godongwana named Thobile Masina as the acting FAIS Ombud. Masina replaced Advocate Nonku Tshombe, who acted in the position since 1 December 2019.
Simpson’s appointment is for two years, effective from November 1.
The FSCA said Simpson brought a “wealth of experience to the role” given that he has served as a magistrate, a general manager at the Ombud for Banking Services, a legal consultant and recently a full-time member at the National Consumer Tribunal.
