Bookings are open for Moonstone Compliance’s last Privacy Governance Webinar of this year, which will discuss data retention.
The webinar will take place on Wednesday, 30 November, from 10am to 12.30pm, on Microsoft Teams. The presenter is Andrea de Jongh, Moonstone Compliance’s privacy governance expert.
The Protection of Personal Information Act requires that personal information is retained by responsible parties for no longer than is necessary for the purpose(s) for which it was obtained. Therefore, responsible parties must be clear about the length of time for which personal information will be kept, and the reason the personal information is being retained.
Some responsible parties retain personal information after the prescribed periods have expired “just in case” they might need it at some undefined point in the future. But “just in case” is not a legitimate justification for retaining personal information.
The webinar will enable you to make informed decisions about whether to retain or destroy records and the grounds on which you can justify retaining personal information.
During the webinar, we will discuss:
- Identifying your processing activities;
- Data governance principles; Building your data governance framework;
- Data retention requirements;
- The risks of storing miscellaneous data; and
- The disposal and destruction of personal information.
This webinar is essential for an organisation’s privacy governance team, information officer, deputy information officer, key individuals, and individuals tasked with risk management duties.
The cost is R250 per person (excl. VAT) for Moonstone Compliance clients and R350 per person (excl. VAT) for other attendees.
Registration closes on 23 November and payment must be received by 24 November.
The CPD points for attending the webinar will be confirmed.
