PSG Asset Management was this week named South African Manager of the Year at the Raging Bull Awards for performance to the end of 2022. The asset manager also won two other awards and three certificates for individual fund performance.
The runners-up for South African Manager of the Year were Ninety One, which was the winner for the past two years, and H4 Collective Investments, which hosts managers such as Citadel Asset Management, All Weather Capital and Peregrine Capital. Its funds did not win any trophies or certificates.
Ninety One’s Global Strategic Managed Feeder Fund won the certificate for the Best Global Multi-Asset High Equity Fund on a Risk-Adjusted Basis over five years.
At the end of August 2022, PSG had assets under management of R41.9 billion, compared to R2.7 trillion at Ninety One.
The Raging Bull for Offshore Manager of the Year went to Credo Group, a London-based global investment management business that markets three offshore funds to South African investors. These funds did not win any trophies or certificates.
The Raging Bull Awards are hosted annually by Personal Finance in partnership with data providers ProfileData and PlexCrown Fund Ratings. The awards have been presented since 1997.
In addition to the two management company awards, eight Raging Bull trophies and 30 certificates are awarded to South African and offshore funds for straight performance over three years and risk-adjusted performance over five years to 31 December 2022.
The eight trophies for individual funds are:
- Four for straight performance over three years in the South African equity general, South African interest-bearing, rand-denominated global general equity and offshore global equity categories.
- Four for risk-adjusted performance, as measured by the PlexCrown Fund Ratings, in the South African general equity, South African multi-asset flexible, South African multi-asset equity and offshore global asset allocation categories.
PSG Asset Management’s funds won two Raging Bull Awards for straight performance. Its Diversified Income Fund was the Best South African Interest-Bearing Fund, and the PSG Global Equity Feeder Fund was the Best Global Equity General Fund.
The Diversified Income Fund also received the certificate for Best South African Multi-Asset Income Fund for straight performance.
PSG’s Global Flexible Feeder Fund won the certificate for Best Global Multi-Asset Flexible Fund over three years, while the PSG Income Fund was the Best South African Interest-Bearing Short-Term Fund on a Risk-Adjusted Basis.
The PSG Multi-Management Cautious Fund of Funds, which is managed by PSG Asset Management’s sister company, PSG Wealth, won the certificate for Best South African Multi-Asset Low Equity Fund over three years.
