Various Types of Questions

Posted on

A very important part of your preparation is to make sure that you read and understand the information contained in the FSB’s Preparation Guide.

According to this document, there are four levels of questions:

  1. Knowledge
  2. Comprehension
  3. Application and
  4. Analysis, synthesis and evaluation.

Level 1 and 2 questions should be easiest for candidates who prepared well, while Levels 3 and 4 are normally longer type questions, requiring more reading and thinking.

How is the paper compiled?

35 of the 50 questions in the Rep’s exam (RE5) are taken from levels 1 and 2. This constitutes 70% of the questions.

In the case of the Key Individual exam (RE1), it is 54 of the 80 questions, or 67.5% of the questions.

A longer type of question takes more time to read and consider, yet a right answer for either type of question will only score one point.

To find out how this information can help you approach the exam differently, read our Tips on writing the REs
